Introduction


Bangladesh have recalled all-rounder Mohammad Naim for the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).


Naim, who made his Bangladesh debut in September 2018, has been included in the squad for the first time since June 2019. He was a part of Bangladesh's Under-19 World Cup squad in 2018 and was also included in Bangladesh's squad for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.


The 21-year-old has played four ODIs and two T20Is for Bangladesh. He will replace injured opener Tamim Iqbal in the squad.


The Asia Cup will be played from September 15 to 28 in the UAE. Bangladesh will play their first match against Sri Lanka on September 17.


The Bangladeshi Cricket Board (BCB) recalled batsman Mohammad Naim for the Asia Cup 2022 squad.


The 20-year-old left-handed batsman last played for Bangladesh in the T20I series against Pakistan in Dhaka in April this year. He was not a part of Bangladesh's initial squad for the Asia Cup.


Naim has been recalled to the squad after he scored a century and a half-century in the National Cricket League (NCL) for Khulna Division.


He will replace opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto in the squad. Shanto was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.


The Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka from June 18 to 30. Bangladesh will play their first match against Pakistan on June 19.


He was listed in the original squad but was not included for the final roster after he sustained a thumb injury in his right hand following an incident with team-mate Mehidy Hasan.

3. However, with Bangladesh's opening batsman Tamim Iqbal ruled out of the tournament due to injury, the Bangladesh team management have decided to bring Shanto back into the squad as cover.


4. Shanto is a highly-rated young batsman and has been tipped for big things by many in the cricketing world. He will be hoping to make an impact in the Asia Cup and help Bangladesh to victory.


Recently, the BCB had cleared him of all charges.

Naim is a talented young player and his inclusion in the squad will bolster Bangladesh's batting. He is a good batsman and can also contribute with the ball. Naim will be a good option for Bangladesh in the middle-order.

Bowling stats


Bangladesh's bowling attack has been in fine form of late and they will be looking to continue that in the Asia Cup.


Naim Sheikh is the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh in the tournament so far with 10 scalps. He has been very accurate and has only conceded runs at a rate of 3.71 per over.


Sheikh has also been handy with the bat, scoring runs at a strike rate of nearly 100. He has made some useful contributions lower down the order and will be looking to continue that in the remainder of the tournament.


The rest of the Bangladesh bowlers have also been doing well. Mustafizur Rahman has been among the wickets with 9 scalps, while Rubel Hossain has chipped in with 8 wickets.


Overall, Bangladesh's bowling attack looks in good form and they will be hoping to make use of that in the remainder of the tournament.
